Effective 18 October 2026
Letterling collects no personal information from anyone, of any age. It has no servers, no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party software of any kind. It never opens a network connection. Nothing a child does in Letterling leaves the device it is done on.
The rest of this page explains that in more detail, because Letterling is made for children and a parent deserves specifics rather than reassurance.
Letterling keeps the following on the device, in the app's own storage, and nowhere else:
This information is written to the device's local app storage by the app itself. It is not uploaded, synchronised, backed up to us, or transmitted anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to go: Letterling contains no code that makes a network request.
Letterling is designed for children, including children under 13. It complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the simplest possible way: it collects no personal information from children, so there is none to use, share, sell or disclose, and no parental consent mechanism is required for data collection that does not occur.
A child's first name is entered on the device by a parent or carer during setup. It stays in the app on that device. It is not personal information collected by us, because it is never sent to us or to anyone else.
Letterling places a parent gate in front of its settings, so that a child cannot change their own limits, erase their progress or alter another child's.
Letterling asks for one device permission, and only when a parent chooses to use the feature it belongs to:
Spoken instructions use the voice already installed on the device. No recording takes place and no audio leaves the device.
Letterling can produce a short code that carries one child's progress to another device, so a family moving from an iPad to an iPhone does not start again. That code is generated on the device, shown on the screen, and typed in by hand on the other device by the parent. It is not sent through us and it does not travel over a network unless a parent chooses to send it somewhere themselves.
Two ways, both complete and both immediate:
There is no copy anywhere else, so there is nothing left for us to delete and no request to make of us.
If Letterling ever changes in a way that affects this policy, the policy will be updated here and the effective date at the top will change. Any change that introduced data collection would be announced plainly on this page and in the app's release notes, not buried.
Questions about this policy, or about anything else, go to hello@letterling.app and reach a person.
